The professionals at Celibré understand that Melasma can be an extremely frustrating condition. When we talk to our patients about our treatment programs, we are careful to explain and set the expectation that a Melasma condition is managed rather than cured. If you have Melasma (also known as the "pregnancy mask") good treatment options do exist, but understanding that Melasma is a condition that needs to be diligently managed is important to your success.

Melasma is a stubborn skin condition that causes dark pigmented patches on the face. It can affect anyone but occurs most often in women, particularly women with darker skin types.
Melasma results from a higher than normal accumulation of melanin (the pigment in our skin) and is normally brought on by hormonal changes resulting from pregnancy or the use of oral birth control (thus the name "pregnancy mask"). The dark patches caused by Melasma occur most commonly on the forehead, cheeks and neck. Although it does not pose a serious health risk, Melasma is worsened by exposure to the sun, heat and humidity.
At Celibre, we offer two melasma treatment plans. Although it is impossible to determine which plan a patient may respond to best, it is encouraging for our patients to know that there are options. Melasma patients must realize that their condition is considered chronic in nature. The goal is improvement and control through the use of effective products/treatments and diligent sun avoidance.
