Contrary to popular belief, Botox® does not paralyze the face, as some of our patients have suggested. In fact, Botox® Cosmetic is a highly purified protein used to relax muscles that cause lines (frown lines, smoker's lines and crow's feet for example) and other types of wrinkles, and it is extremely effective at smoothing the skin around the eyes and forehead.
As we age, our skin loses its elasticity and volume because the production of collagen and elastin decrease. This causes the skin to thin, leaving everyday facial expressions such as frowning or smiling to highlight creases, lines and hollow areas on our face. Although this process is impossible to stop, Botox is an effective means for smoothing and hiding the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

The Chemical Brow Lift. This technique uses Botox® Cosmetic to relax only certain facial muscles, thereby creating a mini "chemical" brow lift. The outcome is a very natural refreshed appearance.
Upper Lip Smoothing. Using this technique, the vertical (or smoker's lines) above the upper lip can be smoothed out by relaxing the muscles that cause these lines to be visible. Very small doses of Botox are used with or without Restylane and Juvederm to relax the strong muscle above the lip and at the same time add volume to specific areas. Combining Botox and Restylane/Juvederm in this area can can minimize or eliminate smoker's lines from view altogether.
