TREATMENT PLAN

When considering laser birthmark removal, it is important to approach the treatments with a realistic set of expectations. It is important to know that not all birthmarks can be treated with lasers, and birthmark removals that Celibré performs are typically limited to those birthmarks that are flat. If your birthmark is raised or has hair on it, our laser treatment procedures may not be the right method of treatment for you.

In addition to being limited in the type of birthmarks we can treat with lasers, it is also important to understand that laser birthmark removal may work very well for one person and poorly for another. The physical makeup of a birthmark is variable and two birthmarks that look very similar may react very differently to laser treatments. Some birthmarks may be completely removed and some only partially. Some may take only 2-3 treatments, while some may take, 4, 6 or more laser treatments to respond. This means that when you come to a consultation there may be some uncertainty about the results you may experience.

Celibré has a unique approach to laser birthmark removal. We possess two separate kinds of q-switched lasers for the removal of birthmarks (q-switched lasers are fire laser light energy into the skin in short bursts measured in billionths of a second). Utilizing short, high-powered bursts of energy associated with q-switched lasers, we are able to break down the birthmark’s pigmentation. The body can then remove the excess pigment, returning the skin to its normal tone. During the laser treatment, light energy from the lasers passes through the upper layers of the skin and is absorbed by the darker pigment of the birthmark. Patients report a hot tingling sensation as the birthmark absorbs the laser energy. Birthmark removal laser treatments usually last between fifteen and 30 minutes. There may be some discomfort during the treatment, but there is no down time after the procedures, allowing patients to return directly to work, home or school.
